Michael Toyer

Director at Renaisi

London, United Kingdom

About Me

I  lead Renaisi’s interim management and local government programmes service.

My experience and skills

I have over 15 years of experience of strategy development, socio-economic research, programme delivery and project management at a national, regional and local level. I currently lead a multi-disciplinary team as Programme Director of a major school expansion programme for a London borough.

Whilst at Renaisi I have enhanced our local economic development offer by linking our knowledge of economic research, policy development and delivery. I led a number of economic assessments for London boroughs and a Business Improvement District with subsequent follow-on work on strategy development and delivery advice. I also have significant experience of planning policy development, local plans and supporting infrastructure assessments through previous assignments.

I’ve been able to blend my previous experience with my practitioner level MSP and PRINCE2 qualifications to define and oversee delivery of a significant local authority led capital programme. Increasingly I’m supporting clients with business planning and viability assessment for services.

Prior to joining Renaisi, I worked as the Strategy & Research Manager at a four star London borough and covered various posts in Central Government and Government Office for London, including key periods working directly to ministers responsible for regeneration and planning.

My interests

I’ve always been keen on understanding how things work plus I love new ideas and new technology. Undoubtably this has been a benefit through my career  but it also means that I’ve been tagged as the tech-geek in the office so am always being asked for recommendations on phones, laptops, devices and the like.

I supported my local community get going on their journey to develop a truly community led neighbourhood plan and have been quite amazed by all the positive spin offs from those local conversations and subsequent activity that really has helped improve the sense of place where I live.

Finally, I found a form of exercise I enjoy that doesn’t threaten my dodgy knees. I’m one of the MAMILs you’ll on the roads of Epping and Essex very early in the morning. Please be kind if you see me!
