Donna Lightbown

Director at Renaisi

London, United Kingdom

About Me

I am a Director at Renaisi with overall responsibility for our neighbourhoods and communities portfolio. I also lead Renaisi’s policy and communications work.

My experience and skills

I have over 16 years’ experience of working in the third sector, supporting local areas with their social and economic regeneration. I current Donna head up Renaisi’s work for Local Trust – helping to deliver the £200m Big Local programme on behalf of the National Lottery Fund. The work involves managing a national network of over 80 community development professionals who are supporting 150 different communities across England to improve their areas.

Since joining Renaisi, I have worked with over ten London local authorities, supporting them with the development and delivery of a wide range of social and economic regeneration projects. These include place shaping and visioning, inward investment and business retention and stakeholder and community engagement. For example, I have recently worked with the London Borough of Croydon to develop a long-term vision for the borough. This involved extensive stakeholder facilitation and more than 20,000 local people actively contributing to the borough’s 30 year vision and Core Strategy. I also supported Hackney Council to develop their business and communications propositions around the Olympics and advised developer Balfour Beatty on their bid to the London Legacy Development Corporation about how to maximise the social benefit from their role in managing the Queen Elizabeth Park in legacy.

After graduating, I worked as marketing and campaigns manager for the Campaign for Learning at the Royal Society of Arts and also spent a year as senior press and campaigns officer for the UK’s biggest volunteering charity, Community Service Volunteers (CSV). I’m a member of both the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).
