Today is World Mental Health Day. To mark the day at Renaisi we have invited mindfulness teacher and Buddhist practitioner, Sanghasiha, to run a mindfulness workshop with the team.

So what role can mindfulness play at work? Mindfulness has been proven to reduce stress and prevent relapse into depression, helping to minimise absence and improve staff retention. It's also associated with increased concentration and productivity.

But it's about more than this. Mindfulness is about change. It's a process of becoming more aware in the present moment - of your thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations and senses - so that you can chose how to respond to situations. Rather than going on auto-pilot, it gives us the tools to chose the most creative response. This is why it's so effective as cognitive therapy approach - it creates a gap between stimulus and response which is the gateway to breaking old habits. With greater awareness we can also become more sensitised to the well-being of others and how our actions have an effect on them.

It's easy to see how this practice can help create thriving, collaborative and creative workplaces. I'm looking forward to the session!
